What's On Deck
Real Players. Real Results.
"Within two months I'd played three tournaments, found a regular doubles partner, and saved more on court fees than my entire membership cost."
"TAPP's beginner boot camp changed everything. Now I play three times a week and just signed up for my first tournament. This community gave me so much."
"The Legend tier paid for itself with the free tournament entry. But the best part is the statewide network — it's opened doors I didn't know existed."

Built by Texans,
for Texans
TAPP was founded in Austin, TX to give every pickleball player in the Lone Star State — from first-timers to nationally-ranked competitors — a unified home, a real voice, and access to everything they need to play.
Grow the Game.
Build the Community.
TAPP is the official Texas affiliate of USA Pickleball. We exist to advocate for court access, run world-class events, fund scholarships for Texas students, and connect players from El Paso to Beaumont.
We believe pickleball is for everyone — every age, every skill level, every corner of the state. TAPP is the infrastructure that makes that possible.
The People Behind TAPP
Our founding board is made up of Texas pickleball players, coaches, and community advocates.

Pickleball 101
New to pickleball? You're in the right place. Here's everything you need to know to pick up a paddle and get on the court.
What Is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Played on a badminton-sized court with a low net, it's easy to learn and incredibly fun for all ages.
Learn on USA Pickleball →How to Play
Games are played to 11 points (win by 2). The serve must be underhand. There's a 7-foot "kitchen" zone where volleys aren't allowed. USA Pickleball has the complete beginner guide.
Full How-to Guide →What You Need
A paddle ($40–$200), a pickleball ($3–5 each), and court shoes. Most courts provide balls for open play. You really don't need much to get started.
Court & Scoring
Courts are 20×44 feet — the same as a doubles badminton court. Only the serving side can score. Singles or doubles, the game is fast-paced and addictive.
Know Your Skill Level
Pickleball uses a 2.0–5.0+ rating scale. Understanding your level helps you find the right open play sessions and tournaments. TAPP breaks it all down.
Take a Lesson
A certified coach can cut your learning curve in half. TAPP members get 15% off coaching through our partner network, and we run beginner clinics all year.
Official Rules
TAPP follows the official rulebook set by USA Pickleball, the national governing body. All TAPP tournaments are played under these rules.
The Key Rules to Know
You cannot volley the ball (hit it in the air) while standing in or touching the 7-foot kitchen zone on either side of the net.
Must be underhand, hit below the waist, and land in the diagonal service box. Drop serve and volley serve are both legal.
After the serve, each side must let the ball bounce once before volleying. This stops the serving side from rushing the net immediately.
Only the serving side scores points. Games to 11, win by 2. In tournament play, rally scoring to 15 or 21 is sometimes used.
All TAPP-hosted tournaments follow USA Pickleball's official rulebook with the following additions: all disputed calls go to the head referee, electronic line-calling may be used at select events.
Skill Ratings Explained
Understanding your rating helps you find the right competition, the right open play group, and the right path to improve. Here's everything you need to know.
2.0 to 5.0+ — What It All Means
| Rating | Level | What It Looks Like |
|---|---|---|
| 2.0 | Beginner | Just learning the rules and basic strokes. Still working on keeping the ball in play consistently. |
| 2.5 | Novice | Can sustain a short rally. Understands the kitchen rule. Starting to develop a serve and return. |
| 3.0 | Recreational | Consistent mid-court play. Understands strategy basics. Can play dinks but not always controlled. |
| 3.5 | Intermediate | Strong serve and return. Can attack high balls. Starting to use third shot drops and resets. |
| 4.0 | Advanced | Consistent dinking, drives, and resets. Strong at the kitchen line. Can execute third shot drops reliably. |
| 4.5 | Advanced+ | Tournament-competitive. Strong all-around game with few unforced errors. Can adapt strategy mid-rally. |
| 5.0+ | Elite | Top 1% of all players. National/international tournament competitor. Exceptional power, touch, and court IQ. |
